ABOUT NURSE-SLING
Revolution in nursing pillow market in 30 years
Nurse-sling is a revolutionary nursing pillow that provides comfort and ergonomic support in an easily portable design. Unlike a crescent-shaped nursing pillow designed 30 years ago, it is the only nursing pillow that holds your baby, allowing you to have upright posture and rest your arm and wrist.
HOW IT STARTED
Putting myself in breastfeeding mom's shoes
I had a broad challenge of coming up with new items in nursing section. Since I didn't have first hand experience with breastfeeding, I held a baby doll pretending to nurse at the corner of the office to put myself in user's shoes. Although it was just a baby doll, I started feeling tension in my arm and wrist shortly after. This made me think 'What if there is a product that wraps around mom's body and support baby's neck like an arm sling?' This was the start of designing Nurse-sling.
USER TESTING
2 Rounds of user testing
We went through two major product testings; 1) user/expert testing with rough prototype and 2) user testing with manufacturable prototype.
First testing was done with 3 nursing moms and 2 lactation consultants to verify if the idea would actually work. Moms and experts were pleasantly surprised or skeptical about this new idea but we were able to see the potential that this product could help millions of nursing moms out there.
Second testing was done with 10 different moms via product testing agency with our manufacturable prototype. I was able to observe virtually how users interact with the product and hear what they think about it. This process helped us refine the product further as well as build confidence to put this new product in mass market.
PRODUCT LAUNCH
Putting the Kickstarter contents together
We launched Nurse-sling at Kickstarter as a mean of advertisement. The project was fully funded and successfully delivered to customers worldwide. I worked on creating the story line and visual that goes into the campaign page.
PACKAGING DESIGN
Communicate new product to consumer
I designed the packaging of the products and instruction manual. The main challenge was to communicate clearly what this product is and why it is beneficial to the users since it was unfamiliar item to the consumer. On one side, we included testimonial on one side to alleviate the doubt about the product. On the other side we put key 5 product benefits with image and text in order to communicate the idea quickly.
