Summary
Nocnoc is a sleep and wake aid system proposed in 2013 as a school team project. The system helps cohabitating couples with different sleep schedule to get quality sleep.
As a team, we developed the concept and user flow together and I lead the UI design direction and screen design.
PROBLEM
Poor sleep quality of shift workers
About 20% americans do shift work, meaning they work non-traditional hours outside the typical 9 a.m. to 5 p.m window. Shift workers have a hard time getting quality sleep because their sleep schedules go against bodies natural internal clock (Circadian Rhythm) and their sleep gets disrupted from their partner or family members.
SOLUTION
Sleep and wake-up system for cohabitating
couples with different sleep schedules
Shifting internal body clock with effective wake up
Research shows that having a consistent wake up time is the best way to change circadian rhythm which helps you get more restful sleep. Nocnoc alarm system effectively wakes you up by using multiple wake up methods which helps you reset your circadian rhythm after a sleep schedule change.
Uninterrupted sleep
The system promotes uninterrupted sleep by communicating their current sleep state to their cohabitating partner through the integrated display screen and phone app.
Key Components
Nocnoc system includes 3 components; 1) Ankle Band 2) Door Knocker 3) Mobile App
The Ankle band: Sleep tracking and silent alarm
The Nocnoc wearable ankle band is soft like a sleeping sock and worn around users ankle before bed time. It analyzes user's sleep cycle by monitoring user's heart rate and body temperature, which is more accurate than phone apps alone. When it's time to wake up, the ankle band gently vibrates users ankle to wake them up without disturbing their cohabitating partner.
The door knocker: Connected knocking alarm
Knocks your door to wake you up
It wakes you up effectively by mimicking a person knocking on your door.
Back up alarm from your partner or a friend
You can get help waking up by setting the "Friends Alarm" function as a back up alarm. With "Friends Alarm", Your partner or family members can remotely knock on your door to wake you up with simple taps of the Nocnoc app.
The door knocker: Connected sleep display
Communicates your sleep cycle with cohabitating partner for uninterrupted sleep.
The door knocker hangs outside of your door so your partner can view your current sleep stage. Your partner can avoid doing activities that can wake you up around the house during the light sleep stage.
The Application: A hub to control connected device
